Neither train nor taxi. Walking is probably best, it s a really nice walk out there this time of year and will take about 20 minutes, maybe a little less.Just get out of Penn Station, and walk along 34th Street to 6th Avenue. Look at the Macy s windows along the way. Turn left at 6th, and walk up 6th Avenue to 48th Street as you see all the nice decorations along 6th. Make a right at 48th, and halfway to 5th Avenue, you ll get to Rockefeller Plaza. Can t miss the tree.If you re in a hurry, find an uptown 1 train out of Penn Station and get off at 50th Street, then walk from 7th Avenue to 6th Avenue. Or, get an uptown/Queens-bound E train and take it to 5th Avenue/53rd Street, and just walk down 5th to 50th Street and make a right. It s a toss-up, go to the 1 or the E, whichever you find first. Then again, it s weekend service, so in the amount of time you d be waiting for and riding the train, then walking from it, it might take just as long to just walk the whole way, and you ll see more.Taxi will likely be more than $5, maybe more than $10. This is a situation in which I would never take a taxi unless I was carrying a ridiculously large amount of stuff. It s midtown Manhattan in the middle of the day.Just take a nice walk, trust me.
Oh, then just walk! It s easy, and it s short! Maybe walk up to Central Park just for fun! Report Abuse
If the weather is nice, I would walk. Its not far, and walking is the best way to get around in Manhattan.Leave Penn station at the 8th Avenue exit. Walk north on 8th Avenue to 49th street. Turn right and walk one-half block to the entrance to the Plaza. The tree will be immediately in front of you.If the weather is bad - - - ugh. Choices are less desirable. There is a taxi stand directly in front of the 8th Avenue exist of Penn Station, but the line for a taxi could be very long. For the subway, Leave Penn station at the 8th Avenue Exit. Walk straight ahead on 34th Street for two blocks to Herald Square subway station. Take an F, B, Q or D train - get off at second stop at Rockefeller Center. This station is on the 6th Ave side, so you will need to walk around the 30 Rock building - take either 49th or 50th street one half block to the entrance to the Plaza, and the tree will be directly in front of you.
Option 1:Exit Penn Station at 7th Av exit.Walk to 34th St-Herald Sq at 6th Av-Broadway.Take uptown (D) or (F) to 47th-50th Sts.Option 2:Take same exit as Option 1.Take Bronx-bound (1)(2) or Harlem-bound (3) to Times Sq.Transfer to Flushing-bound (7) train to 5th Av-Bryant Park.Transfer to uptown (D) or (F).Taxis cost you more because jump in taxi now has been raised to $3 as of Nov 1, 2009. This is part of MTA Bailout Plan. Also please be advise weekend has many construction work schedule on subway system.
take the taxi baby, trains are allways giving trouble BELIEVE ME I TAKE THE TRAIN EVERY DAY! it wont cost you no more then 15$ the key is take it near Rockafeller center then walk like 2 blocks to avoid the crowd it will be fast and easy And you dont have to walk so much like someone else said on this webpage dress warmly cause it gets cold and if you have your wallet in a pocket make sure its your inner coat pocket cause there plenty of pickpocketers around crowded areas in the city. Enjoy and ...I love you lol
Walking is nice, however, if the weather is fouled you might want to take the subway. From Penn Station, take the uptown (northbound) #1, 2 or 3 lines (Red Line on the subway map) to Times Square. At Times Square, transfer upstairs to the the N , R or W train (Yellow Line). Take either line from Times Square to 49th Street. At 49th Street, exit the subway, exit the station and follow the walking direction at the link below.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d source=sGood luckNative New Yorker
