Were coming to new york! :D... Taxi?!? -

me and my boyfriend are coming to newyork - well we are going on a cruise but i would like him to see some of new york before we set off,we are staying at a hotel in jfk, and just wondered if anyone knows how much a standard cab would cost from jfk to times square?and how much more it costs after midnight?or if there is a better means of transport.oh im so excited!will anything even be open on thanksgiving??:D

The flat fare from JFK to anywhere in Midtown, Manhattan will cost you $45. There is no night surcharge and the meter is off for this trip. The flat fare also applies for travel from Midtown to JFK.If you are traveling between the hours of 8pm and 6am, there is a 50-cents nighttime surcharge in addition to the metered fare, which starts at $3.If you want to save some cash, I would highly recommend taking public transit instead. If the hotel your staying offers a shuttle bus service, you can take the shuttle bus from your hotel the Airtrain station at Federal Circle and you can take the Airtrain from there to Jamiaca Station. At Jamaica Station, you can transfer to the subway. Take the Manhattan-bound (westbound) E train (Blue Line on the subway map) from Jamaica Station (Sutphin/Archer-JFK) to 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal, which is the near Times Square. The fare on the subway is $2.25 a person and $5 a person on the Airtrain. You can purchase a $14.50 MetroCard ($7.25 a person) at the Jamaica Airtrain Station. Most places will be open on Thanksgiving, however, they will close early for the holiday.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luckNative New Yorker

Taxi fare is a $45 flat rate from and to JFK.If you are going after midnight, I would say a taxi is the best means of transportation, although it will be expensive. It is also possible to get there via Subway, but taxis are a little safer and more reliable at night. If you want to go via subway, try www.hopstop.com to map your route. As for your question about Thanksgiving, this is New York -- of course things will be open! Maybe a few less spots than usual, but I think you ll have no trouble finding something to do. After all, Thanksgiving is a big tourist time in New York. If you find that some of the activities you want to go to are closed, I recommend walking around Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Greenwich Village, Washington Square Park, Union Square, and Central Park. You ll see a lot of exciting sights without having to pay entry to, say, the Empire State Building or worry about things being closed. That being said, if you re here after midnight, probably don t go to Central Park. (Washington Square Park is fine, since it is well lit and there are always a lot of people there.) Have fun!

the taxi is very expensive l suggest taking the subway which everyone in nyc does.lts cheaper.on thanxgiving theres gonna be the macy s parade which is great so have some fun.

the fare to/from JFK is $45 flat

try the shuttle http://www.goairlinkshuttle.com/or bus http://www.nyairportservice.com/both are only $17

Listen to the man who told you to talk the airtrain to the subway or railroad and use that to come into the city. If you go to Jamaica station and take the railroad, Penn Station, near Macy s is only one stop and this is by far the quickest way. You can also use the E or F subway train if you want to go further West. this is the cheapest, but more time-consuming method. Please avoid the cabs as they are very costly and some crooks will take out-of-towners by the grand circle route. New York cabbies don t have a fixed price to and from the airport as is common in many cities and a cab with the expected tip can easily set you back $50.00Here are some links to the public transportation system:http://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/articleIf you arrive the day before Thanksgiving, you can see the famous Macy s parade and you may catch the tail end if you get in early enough on Thanksgiving itself. In that case, go straight to the LIRR into Penn Station, see the parade and then drop your bags off. Penn Station is one block west of Macys.

From JFK, you can take the AirTrain for about $5 to Jamaica Station. At Jamaica, take a Manhattan-bound E train for $2.25 and get off at 42nd Street/Port Authority Bus Terminal/Times Square.A taxi is $45 (plus tip) from JFK to Times Square at all times. However, if you re coming from a hotel, the hotels aren t exactly in JFK Airport, so they ll charge a metered rate, which could be higher or lower than $45 depending on distance, time, traffic, all of that. So, those are your options. You might wish to ask your hotel if they provide any sort of shuttle service to stations like Jamaica or Howard Beach, where you can get the AirTrain or the subway. If you go to Howard Beach, get a Manhattan-bound A train and get off at 42nd/Port Authority/Times Square. Late night? I might consider the taxi. I rarely use taxis in this city, but that s one situation in which I d consider it.Many places are closed on Thanksgiving, but many are still open. It s a toss-up, you ll find stuff.EDIT: Mary is correct on most points about public transportation, but one minor correction - NYC cabs DO have a fixed price to and from JFK Airport, it s $45. Perhaps she is thinking of LGA-LaGuardia and/or EWR-Newark/Liberty, which involve the metered rate.
