A question about Malibu? -

so we were in Santa Monica recently (from New Zealand) and thought we d jump on a bus to Malibu, seemd to take ages so we jumped off at the Malibu Pier, nothing there so crossed the road and went home.. i keep seeing these amazing beaches on tv etc at Malibu.. did we jump off the bus too soon?? were there shops along the beach etc??just a bit curious as it seemed like we;d been on the bus waaay too long and we thought that was it.Thanks

Oh yeah, you jumped off WAY early. I think some valuable lessons were learned here:1. Public Transit in LA is SLOW and inefficient. 2. Traffic in LA is infamously bad. 3. Don t believe everything you see on TV.There aren t really shops along the beach at all. In fact, all you are going to see is mostly garages of the rich and famous. Zuma Beach is pretty nice, but it was quite a bit further along. A lot of those houses along the beach are in a very small area between PCH and the water... and public access is discouraged in every possible way by locals.

I remember thinking pretty much the same thing. Why does anyone want to live there, let alone the rich? One house wide and twenty seven miles long. It s shrouded in sea fog a lot of the time, and then around December there are fires in the hills and they lose a house or two. The fires destroy the undergrowth on the hills so that when it rains towards Christmas they have mud slides and they lose a few more. Guess the film makers are really good at making crap look sexy.Hope you tried Venice Beach. Bizarre in the extreme but much more fun.

There are not shops along the beach - like in Venice or Santa Monica - but there are restaurants and shopping centers (little and quaint) on Pacific Coast Highway..............It s really not a tourist destination and the beaches are by private access

malibu isnt a touristy kind of city, thats whyyou have small shops, restaurants and stuff but thats about itimmmmmmmmmmm from malibu
