The World Trade Center (which was actually a complex, not just the famous Twin Towers) was world headquarters to the most powerful financial houses in the world, but the Empire State Building was always the sentimental favorite in New York. The building is just so much better looking. Then too, the Empire State Building was where King Kong hung out. No doubt, for a New Yorker, the Empire State Building, The Chrysler Building and the Woolworth Building will always be tops. For many an older New Yorker, the Twin Towers were known as the boxes the buildings came in. We will never forget the sacrifices made by so many that day, but New York has always had important buildings and always will. I am posting an article that tells you about how the city was almost entirely burned to the ground in the 19th century and how it was rebuilt from the humble earth of Staten Island.http://www.associatedcontent.com/article
Well, for one thing, the Empire State Building got hit by a plane in the 1940s and didn t fall down (see link, below), and, for another thing, the Empire State Building was put up in just 13 months, while the construction site at Ground Zero has been a gaping wound in New York City s heart for EIGHT YEARS now, with NO end in sight!!I, personally, think that the Empire State Building wins!
I don t really understand what you are asking! The Empire State Building is a cool looking building, and it s certainly tall (it was the tallest building in the world when it was built) and of course --- it s still here! But the World Trade Center brings up all kinds of sad memories for those of us who live in NYC. I really think this question is in bad taste. It almost sounds like you are making fun of something that was, for New Yorkers, a really tragic event! I personally knew two people who died that day, and I really don t appreciate this, if you are, indeed, making a joke of this event. Maybe if you d been here on that day, you d know better!
Shame on you for asking a stupid question like this. Have you been living in a cave for the last 9 years? The sacrifice of 343 fire fighters , NYPD and others isn t something to question of what building is more important. They died trying to help others in there time of greatest need.
I always liked the Empire State Building better, but the fate of the Twin Towers has made that into possibly the most important building in our history.
