Would it be out of place to give a NYC apt. doorman a box of candy for Christmas instead of a cash gift? -

Why would you give a doorman anything

Doormen often rely on those end of year cash gifts as do many people who get Christmas bonuses in their paychecks. If money is tight, then a box of candy is better than nothing, try to include a note thanking him for his help all year.I suspect you don t know him all that well, so no explanation of your money situation would be appropriate. If you must say something, try Merry Christmas (or whatever you say) (insert name), lets hope next year s a more prosperous one all around.

Yes, it would be very out of place. Especially, if he was diabetic. If you expect your doorman to help you out in any form over the next year, you will definitely give him a cash gift.

Give the $15. Think if everybody though as you did. What would the door man do with all the chocolates.

He would probably prefer cash. If he wants chocolates, he can buy hem.Are you trying to do a little regifting?
