Is there snow in Lake Tahoe right now? -

is there snow in lake tahoe right now? my family and I are planning on visiting for thanksgiving. staying there on the night of 11/27/09, and 11/28/09. is there snow then? I checked the weather and its supposed to be relatively warm for tahoe: 49 F on friday, 47 on sat, and 46 on sun. so will there be any snow? also, if u know, are there any stops on the way to tahoe that puts on snow chains for u? -my parents are horrible at that -also, how much would it cost for that privilege?

That s actually not relatively warm for tahoe this time of year... it s about average, actually. Note those are the high temperatures, and the low temperatures are, um, significantly lower. As for snow, short answer is: yes, there s snow. Long answer is that it depends on elevation, etc... as to just how much. I know the mountains/slopes have accumulated snow right now, though I m not sure the lower areas/town has much if any (though I d assume so). But yes, there s snow.As for snow chains... they re quite easy to put on and it s probably a better idea someone practice/learn how before going on the trip. Shouldn t take long to learn... it s basically like wrapping the tire in a blanket then connecting the ends. That said, basically any gas/service station along the way will put them on for you, with only a couple problems... 1.) It s illegal to have snow chains on before they re required (as they damage the road) so you d have to wait until they were required (will be posted in lights along the road), and 2.) by that time EVERYONE who doesn t know how to put them on has to go to the same finite number of gas/service stations, so (depending on traffic, which should be bad during a holiday weekend), you could be sitting there a couple hours (or more) waiting your turn, and likewise, with such a high demand, it s pretty expensive. So best option is to buy them from wherever you re leaving (they re cheap in the Bay Area since no one needs them here) and learn how to put them on yourself... will save a lot of time and money.

Right now, yes. Next week, just what s left.
