Road tolls in New York and New Jersey? -

I am going to be traveling down to watch a Philadelphia Eagles game on december 27,2009 coming from Montreal. When I looked up the directions I noticed that we had to spend most of our drive in the united states driving along toll roads. I was just curious if the 1 hour detour to avoid these tolls is more beneficial than paying them (my friends and I have never gone on a road trip like this so we have no idea how the tolls work). The roads we will be on are as followed:exit 1W to merge onto I-87 S/I-90 Wexit 23-1 for I-87 S/New YorkMerge onto I-87 S for 1 hour 54 minsTake exit 14A to merge onto Garden State Pkwy S toward New Jersey for 41 minsexit 129 for I-95/N.J. TurnpikeContinue toward I-95 SKeep left at the fork, follow signs for I-95 S/N J Turnpike SKeep left at the fork to continue toward I-95 S and merge onto I-95 Sexit 4 toward NJ-73 SI am sorry I copy pasted all the directions but it is because underneath all of those it says either partial toll road or toll road.

The NYS Thruway is tolled through ticket from Exit 24 to Exit 16, which you will pay the $5.30 toll. However, if I may make a suggestion that is different than what is stated on the map search.Get off I-87 at Exit 15A, which is New Jersey Route 17 (South) and Interstate 287 (South) towards New Jersey. Then stay right to I-287 South, and take that to I-95. That will save you the tolls on the Garden State Parkway, and you will be looping around much of the New York metro suburbs, so most likely traffic will be less congested than it would be if you were going to be traveling on the Garden State Parkway. You ll be getting on the New Jersey Turnpike one exit south, at Exit 10. The toll from Exit 10 to Exit 4 is $2.60.The other toll you would have to pay is when you get to the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, which is Route 73. The toll, which is westbound only, is $2. That means the maximum tolls you would spend, using the route I prescribed above, would be $9.90.Most routes you could take to bypass the tolls would probably result in you paying the equal amount in gas, so thus the best idea is to actually stomach the tolls.

Use the NY and NJ toll calculators to figure out how much it will cost.

The link below is better route and has fewer tolls. Please note, the trip from Montreal to Philly on this route is 8.5 hours long, each way.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d source=sIn regards to tolls, here how it works. If you see a toll both, just pull into the lane you which to go and pay your toll. Most toll booth only accept coins so make sure you have plenty of them.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luck
