Where to stay in Clearwater FL? -

Looking to go on vacation with another couple in clearwater fl. I do not know the area so I don t even know where to start looking. We usually rent 2 bedroom condos so we can share the space. I would like to be where all the activities are so we do not need to worry about driving if we go out drinking. I would assume we would want something near the pier? Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on where to stay? Any input on the area?
