yes you can take the Santa Monica #3 (pay 1.25) get a transfer then take the #3 north to Venice blvd and then transfer to either Metro 333 (limited) or 33 (local)both will take to venice and Figueroa then its about 3 or 4 blocks up tostaples center

I would think you could take the Metro #110 on Jefferson to the Slauson Blue Line Station. This would then take you to the Pico/Flower station and the Staples Center will be a short block to the west.
