Do I HAVE to have a car in LA? -

I am just graduating film school and am in debate-Should I move to LA or New York?I finished up a prestigious internship with a major newspaper in the midwest, and have writing samples. I want to be a screenwriter/actor, and do have a reel of my produced work.Would I be better off in Los Angeles or New York? I have been hearing different things. I do not have a car and hate driving. I do have a license, but I just am not a driver. I have heard its hard to survive in LA without a car, however plenty of my friends have moved out there and gotten along fine on public transit, it just took longer. It seems to me more film work is out in LA, not New York. And prices are still cheaper in LA. Any advice?

LA is not that big - at least not the parts that you will want to go to.You can get around without a car although that will limit your options a bit.It never rains, so you can cycle all year round, and the public transport is improving.I know someone here who drives an hour to work each day. His work is less than 15 miles from his house. It would genuinely be quicker to cycle that distance. You don t have to have a car here. And you want to work in Film, this is where to come.

I am living in NYC now, but I used to live in LA. If you want to work as an actor/screenwriter, you should consider LA first for sure. I lived in LA for a year and a half, and I did not have a car. I lived in Downtown Los Angeles, where you can catch the bus, the train and the subway pretty easily, so it s an excellent place to live if you don t own a car. I relied on the bus to get everywhere and I never had any problems. It takes forever to get somewhere, but it s like that if you have a car as well. Traffic in LA is insane!

first of all, new york(tats where i live) is way better than LA cuz:u gonna get killed by motorcycle gangs, ms13, or mexican drunkards- L0lcalifornia is gonna sink or move apart from us anytime nowI HATE LA, especially da lakers(celtics rock!)but la has more business in filmin like hollywoodbut i prefer NY, unless u wanna die

Wow... don t the people from NY just sound like geniuses... I would say L.A. is a good place for you... it is more difficult to get along without a car but it is possible... tons of people do it everyday... after a while though you may change your mind about wanting a car... but yes it IS possible

You don t have to own a car, just find a place that would have all your living needs near. Well of course public transit takes longer. besides you can always ride the metrolink train.

Is the Pope a Catholic? doe s a bear S**T in the woods? If you dont have wheels in Los angeles, you might as well join a convent!

you don t have to.

ny because hollywood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i am happy for ya hope it helped ooooo and ny giants lol

go to LA and get yourself a bus pass

.yeah

You can get by without a car, plenty of people have to. But you will be rubbing elbows with the poorest and the worst - including the homeless and gang bangers. It will take forever to get anywhere, it takes forever in a car with traffic and the bus is stopping every five minutes.I really would hate to have to rely on public transportation in LA. You just don t know who is going to be on the bus looking for the next person to rob or torment. And you are going to reek of being somebody who isn t from around here . You get off the bus and then what? You are somebody alone on the street with nowhere to hide. Going around by yourself really isn t safe. LA is not like in the movies. It s full of homeless, panhandlers, and gangbangers. Avoid that by going from your home to your destination in the safety of your car.Truly, you re better off in New York if transportation is really an issue.
