You don t need to wear long underwear lol. You should be fine with jeans, and a couple layers on top like a shirt and sweater or hoodie. Take the warmest coat you own and if you have a scarf, mittens and hat take that too. Unless there is a serious cold streak, december isn t usually too cold or snowy. (40 is not cold to me) It s not like you will be spending hours outside, so for the small amounts of time you will be outside, walking from building to building on your tour, you should be fine. If you dont have a winter coat, then you can always buy one when you get there if you find you need one. I usually never wear my winter coat, I get by with a hoodie and north face fleece.
I will be back in Ohio in December too! Right now, I m living in Rome, Italy; however, my family is all from Ohio. I also used to live in California, so I m used to changing climates.Don t worry too much about the weather. You may be shocked, since you re used to warm weather. I wouldn t go as far as wearing long underwear? I mean, I don t really think anybody does that. Jeans, turtle necks, and sweatshirts are normal. In fact, you ll see many college students bumming around in sweatpants, UGG boots, sweatshirts, and scarves. If you have jeans, sweatshirts, scarf, gloves, hat (if you want), boots (even cute rain boots), then you should be fine =]. Oh yeah, a coat would be nice too...Best of luck!
Since you re not used to cold weather, it s going to seem colder to you than it would to Ohioans. There s not much snow in December. Snow falls in 30 degree temps, so that s mainly at night. Water freezes at 32 degrees, and that seems to hold true in Ohio weather. My mom s advice when I was never sure what to wear: Wear lots of layers. That way, you can peal layers off if you get warm. Most Ohioans are comfortable in jeans, a couple long sleeve shirts, medium winter jacket, very comfortable shoes since you ll be doing a lot of walking.
Well I m from Cleveland I m a freeze baby so yes I would say that you should wear long underwear. Jeans and a sweater over it as well as a warm jacket with a scarf, hat gloves. You should be good. Warm socks and proper shoes or boots if you d like or it s snowing.
