What are things to do in Death Valley and the Mojave Desert? -

Drive faster. Get to your real destination. With all the hype connected to the area there is really nothing to do there, Fine, Death Valley is the lowest point in the USA, but so what? Drive to the monument, snap a photo and begone. Whoa! That s the highlight of your day.Hang in the Mojave desert and wait for the winds and fly a kite. It will be a lifetime thrill!!! I do not want to be a kill joy, but it is really boring in the areas you asked about.

Visit Death Valley National Park. You can first visit the Furnace Creek Vistor s Center for maps and some good exhibits. Scotty s Castle, Eureka Dunes, Telescope Peak, and Dante s View are some good places to visit. There are many hiking trails to explore. I liked the Natural Bridge Canyon Hiking Trail and Golden Canyon Trail. Both are short hikes. You can also camp, bike, and birdwatch in the park. The only thing I remember about that area is that Ft. Irwin is forty mile s into the desert from Barstow which is a truck stop between L.A. and Vegas. Nothing at all to do.

In Death Valley I just took in the terrible silence. Its awesome.
