NYC has as good a social services safety net as there is in the country, but what you re looking for really isn t available. With one of the highest unemployment rates in the US, the city and its taxpayers can t be expected to provide services to people who want to move here and look for a job. In fact, the opposite is in place: the city has a program that will help unemployed and homeless people leave to go to another state (as long as they have family support there; the city isn t just offloading the problem elsewhere).Your best bet is probably to be sure you re looking into every possible program your school might offer. They don t have grad housing, but make sure you re not missing any kind of grant, loan, or stipend program that might provide money you can use for housing.

Moving to NYC, are there any housing programs? -
i want to move to nyc are there any housing programs for people out of state. Even if it is a temp housing assistance please let me know. I m want to move to NYC to start my masters degree, and the school doesn t offer grad housing. I m being realistic it will probably talk me about2-3 months to find employment in NYC so this is why I ask about housing assistance. I m open to queens or Brooklyn and maybe the Bronx. Prefer no roomate, studio is fine. Any thoughts thanks
