Any nice nature or forest near NYC? -

if you know please tell me where can I find a nice and undisturbed (by people) nature near New York city? preferably a forest? don t mention any parks, I don t like them because there are to many people around and not enough nature, I just wanna something where I can take a long hike in forest and just get out of everything...maximum 100miles distance from the city. Thank you

High Point State Park, on the Kitatinny ridge, Sussex county, NJ., monument marks the highest point in NJ, from where you can see NY/NY/Pa. (take binocs), depending on visibilty, the Catskills. Trees galore (although bare this time of year), dense forest, trails, including the Appalachian that for the most part, follows the ridge and also goes through-Stokes State Forest, Sussex county, NJ, not far from High Point. County Route 647 seperates both. Dense forest. Both not overrrun by people, and are relatively remote; however once it snows, the parks close to vehicular traffic due to the high elevation.Suggestion: Don t hike alone. Not to scare you, but it s bear country, although now they re going into hibernation. If you do decide to hike alone, take a whistle and if you see a bear, back away very slowly and blow your whistle-they re usually harmless and run from noise. Both about 1 1/2 hrs. out of NYC - depending on traffic.Good luck.

Bear Mountain is beautiful and is only 50 miles upstate from NYC. It s part of the Appalachian trail. You should definitely check out some legs of this trail, it s not far from the city.I d recommend driving up to the Catskill Mountains or to the Poconos, only 1.5 hours away. Lots of trails over there. This website has a comprehensive list of hiking in the Hudson Valley, all within a 1-2 hour drive away from the cityhttp://bearsystems.com/hiking/hiking.htm

half an hour north of the city and a turn onto the old roads and there is plenty of woodland. Contact the NY state tourism office with your question and maps and answers will be forthcoming.

Yeah, it s called Central Park. Just watch for the wild animals and a few crazies when it starts to get dark.
