What kind of place is South Bend Indiana? -

i want to go to Notre Dame University for college and i currently live in Glendale CA, (a neighboring city to los angeles, 15 mins away from Hollywood etc) which is a very pretty and high class city. the largest crime we have here is with traffic, (a lot of people drive much over the speeding limit therefore there are crashes, hit and runs etc) with the exception of large crimes every now and then. the weather is always warm and when its cold its usually doesnt go below ~50 degrees.what i would like to know about south bend is:what kind of people live there?what kind of city is south bend? (ex ghetto, classy, etc)what kind of crimes go on?what is the weather like?what are the neighboring cities? and are those better to live in?also, i noticed that the house out there are really cheap, is that for a specific reason?i know there are alot of question and i hope someone can answer them for me! thanks a bunch!

It is a college town. Most of the residents that are not college students are middle class. The weather is very similar to Chicago weather (it is only 90 minutes west of Chicago). They get a little more snow than us (I live outside of Chicago) because they are south of the snow belt. If you have never experienced cold weather you are in for a shock.I have seen the campus because I have had hockey tournaments there. It is an amazing campus. Most of the crime is petty crime.
