First, be aware that $84K is NOT as huge a salary as it sounds. Especially in Silicon Valley. However, it is not down near any poverty level as many people experience in the area. Careful planning and budgeting can help you live comfortably and even begin saving money.Next issue is whether or not you wish to live near other Indians living in the area. If so, there are several concentrations of South Asians, including a fairly dense community in and around the East Foothills and the Evergreen neigborhood, as well as another in nearby Fremont, California. But be aware that San Jose is extremely cosmopolitan and you ll find Indians, other South Asians and most other ethnic groups well represented all over the city and surrounding valley. Not only are there many Supermarkets around that specialize in Asian Foods, most grocery stores have Asian food sections, as well is produce.A tour of virtually any elementary school in the city will show most races and groups well represented, so there should be no problem with your young children being accepted. And, if you know kids, even if their English Language skills are not as sharp as one might want, it won t take long for them to adapt and get along with their peers. If you have any savings to bring over, it might be a good time to invest in buying a home, rather than renting, if possible. It s a buyer s market and, as long as you pick wiselly and don t get into a more of a mortgage than you can handle, you should be all right. Apartment living can get pretty uncomfortable, unless you can pay a high rent. But with rents that high, you might as well buy a house if you can swing the loan.Good luck and Welcome.
I d say look on the sf bay craigslist at www.craigslist.com and find SF Bay Area... Most places are good to live like in Milpitas, Cupertino, Santa Clara... a lot of Indians who come here and work live in Milpitas and Santa Clara. Most places are safe to live and have ok schools just stay away from Alviso or East San Jose and in most cases it will be a good neighborhood. Also, dont let your kids wear any solid color of all Blue or Red or they might get stabbed or shot by someone.
I lived in San Jose for 20 years. The East side is VERY busy, with allot of different nationalities. And if there are gangs around, they tend to be on that side (East) of town. We really enjoyed living in Campbell, on the West side, near Saratoga and Los Gatos. From my years of living there, I would say that s by far, the nicest. Good luck!!
Cupertino, lots of indians here, and chinese, you ll feel like home here... the schools here in cupertino are top notch.. friendly place
