Whats a good spot (long distance ok) following a stay in Big Sur? Is Grand Canyon too touristy? -

I ve been to Joshua Tree and LA numerous times. I m looking for a national park, but not one that will be jam-packed with tourists.

I m a huge fan of Joshua Tree for just that reason. Not too crowded. I have been there numerous time and still find lots to do. Have you seen Mojave National Preserve yet? That doesn t get too crowded. What about Death Valley? It can get a little crowded sometimes but it s HUGE so you should be able to find some solitude somewhere. Grand Canyon is also huge and can get crowded but if you plan a little you should be able to get there when it isn t high season. How about Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument? That is great in the middle of winter. It s pretty warm down there. Tha down side is it s proximity to the Mexican border causes most of the park to be Day use only and some sections are completely closed off to the public.I hope that helped a little. If you want more info about J Tree, Mojave, or Death Valley, send an email or go to the NPS.gov page. Their sites are pretty good.
