One day in Washington - Any suggestions? -

Dear friends, my husband and I are going to spend 1 day in Washington next January. What do you guys suggest we should do? Which monuments should we visit? Thanks!!!

Hi...My suggestions for a one day visit would be: The National Archives...very unique....and gives a great sense of our historyThe National Museum of American History...Amazing collection of so many things American, from all erasThe Viet Nam Memorial Wall... very moving and somber...Lincoln Memorial..If weather permits...sit on the top steps after viewing Abe.and gaze upon the MallThe White House... Definitely a must see if in DCI tried to lay these out in order from east to west, so they follow in order to eliminate backtracking. . As you ll be on the Mall, the Capitol is also right there. While walking towards Lincoln, you will also pass Washington Monument, World War II Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. There are also numerous other Smithsonian museums along the Mall that you can view. The 5 listed above though, would be my selections for must sees during a short visit.

This is what you do. Be sure to try to get your tickets early for the Washington Monument and the US Capitol Building. They are both FREE but you get them for a specific time of day and later get in line when it is your time to visit.Make sure you are wearing comfortable layered clothes (it s usually cold in January) and comfortable walking shoes (the National Mall area is very large). Try to visit the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials. Also the Washington Monument and the US Capitol if you can.All of the Smithsonian Museums are also FREE. My favorite is the Air Space Museum, which could take two days to really see.Good luck on your trip!

Catch up on sleep.Other than that, Washington Monument, Memorials (Vietname, Lincoln, Jefferson), Smithsonians, White House, Congress, Dupont Circle shopping, Adams Morgan nightlife (for younger people), catch a sporting event at the Verizon Center in Chinatown.

National Geographic put out a list of the best. You really need to go there and see what floats your boat. This is my help from Washington, D.C. United States of America. Please pick an answer as the best answer, even if it is not mine.

I think the Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson memorials are the coolest. If it was me, with one day to spend in DC, I d go to the Smithsonian, probably the Air and Space Museum.

the george Washington and the Lincoln memorials definitely. and the white house is kinda cool.
