If this is your first time, then you should stay on Waikiki Beach so you can enjoy it. Waikiki is the grand prize on Oahu. The resorts far from town (Ihilani, Turtle Bay) will also put you far from many of the sites and you will end up driving back into town much more. The Prince is just outside of Waikiki far to the west, but will put you near Ala Moana Shopping Center. The beach is not that close to the Prince, it overlooks a Yacht Harbor instead but has great views. Also, the Prince is Japanese-owned and is popular with large tour groups from Japan, you may feel a bit alone as an American staying there. This is probably one of the cheaper hotels you have listed, but again it is NOT actually in Waikiki. The Moana Surf Rider is part of the Starwood (Westins, Sheratons, etc.) chain and is the last resort right on the beach going east. The location is the best in Waikiki although some of the rooms if you get a cheaper room along Kalakaua are right next to the road, are very noisy. You may want to opt to stay at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel right next door but recessed from the main road (I would). Both are historic hotels. The Halekulani is the most expensive 5-star resort in Waikiki and I like it, but the location is not as good as the Moana or Royal Hawaiian. Next door is the Waikiki Sheraton, but I find this whole area with wall-to-wall high buildings on the beach VERY congested and rather claustrophobic. The Kahala is my favorite resort hotel in Oahu (before I bought a place here), about 5-10 minutes east of Waikiki in the Kahala district. But if you are a younger, active person, the isolation and what I consider serene atmosphere may just be plain boring to you.You should be able to get a good deal even in the better hotels in the $250/night range because the economy so bad. Especially Starwood hotels frequently offer a stay 3 nights get 4th night free deals if you check their web site, or will throw in free buffet breakfasts.
Basically you ve listed some of the nicest and most expensive hotels around. Of all you listed only the Ihilani and Turtle Bay are not in or immediately around Waikiki. Just based on my basic knowledge, these hotels will cost you between $200 and $1000 per night. It really all depends on what time of year you come and their availability, but don t be surprised if the cheapest room you can find is $200.
There is a pretty wide price range with these hotels. The Ihilani is nice but way out west, so you won t be anywhere near Waikiki/Honolulu. Turtle Bay is up north, so same thing. If these are your only choices and money is no object, stay at the Halekulani. It s beautiful and the service is outstanding! Right on Waikiki beach, too.
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
Depends on the season. Anywhere from 80 ~ 300 bucks a night.I recommend staying at the Park Shore hotel. It is the cheapest (although a little dirty) on the block and has unobstructed views of Diamond Head (because it is all the way on the east side).
The Ihiliana is wonderful! I stayed there for a week last summer, and it s just beautiful. The rooms are very nice, and the pools outside are really great. Plus, there is a private bay type area. It was just a great place altogether.
