Finding a studio/apartment in or near USC? -

I m going to LA with my girlfriend in a week s time - she s a business grad student doing a 1-year exchange at USC. Neither of us are familiar with LA at all and will need to find a place for her asap, since we ll be living in a hotel until we do. She was allocated a shared 2-bedroom grad apartment (Hillview, 2605 SEVERANCE ST.) by university housing, but it s a little steep at $920/month. Can she do better finding a place on her own? Are there any reputable private dorm/residence operators that we can choose from without worrying about unscrupulous landlords? Are there may units available this time of year and how quickly can she sign a lease and move in? Any tips much appreciated... place must be safe and within walking distance.

You need to listen to them since they do this for a living. The area surrounding the USC campus is not the best area for foreigners to be looking for housing in.

Welcome to LA!You re not going to get a better deal anywhere. $920, which includes utilities? Can t beat that with a stick. A 1 BR will cost $1200, plus utilities. A 2BR will cost $1500 plus utilities, PLUS you have to find a roommate who won t flake. Trust me, take the $920. I know it s sticker shock, but that s how it is here in SoCal.

$920 per month is a very good deal for that area. Take it while you can. A private apartment in a safe area near USC normally runs at least $2500 for a 2-bedroom.

Try living on the campus then if you can.$920 is like hitting a gold mine. She can either take it or move back to Utah.

It s a grayish-white four story apartment at Severance St. and West Adams Blvd. The immediate area is nice. You are about 1 mile from school. There s frat houses on the street. One is about 200 feet from your apartment. I d say grab it for $920 per month provided that when you walked inside it was kept up.My cousin went to USC law and felt safe on campus and a few blocks off. You should be fine here.
