Cheap and warm place to stay during winter with a little something to do in Adirondacks? -

Me and my 9yo son want to go somewhere during the holiday. We don t have any other families in the country and we want to get away. We live in NY state so Adirondacks is not too far away. Renting a cabin is a possibility but we don t need anything too big nor too expensive. It s ideal if I can get to know the family who owns the place so I can use it again. Also anything to do during the winter in Adirondacks? I searched the web but there aren t much info on winter vacation in Adirondacks.I want somewhere quiet but cozy and warm, meeting some nice local people. Just want to get away from the internet and spend quiet quality time with my son. Thanks!
