The PATH train is very easy to use. Since you re going to Hoboken, you will need to take the 33rd Street to Hoboken train, which is the Blue Line on the PATH rail map. Also, since you want to take a taxi from JFK to the 33rd Street PATH train station, which is located at 33rd Street and 6th Avenue, the one way fare from the airport to Midtown is $45.50 plus toll. You can avoid the toll, by telling the driver to take the Queensboro Bridge instead of the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. The fare on the PATH train is $1.75 a person ($5.25 for 3 people)I hope this information is very helpful.Good luckNative New Yorker
BTW: If you can, change your flight destinatioin from JFK to Newark Liberty International. You ll be only a few miles from Hoboken, with a short PATH train ride to the Hoboken train station and downtown. The PATH train does NOT run to JFK: http://www.panynj.gov/path/
PATH train is easy and yes you can take your luggage. You do need to buy a metro card or smart card for the fare. There are machines that sell the cards by the turnstile.
