Best route from Raleigh to Pittsburgh? -

I m traveling from Raleigh to Pittsburgh on Friday. I m leaving at noon, which means if I go through Washington DC, I d reach the beltway around 4:00. Should I do this or am I going to get stuck in rush hour traffic? Should I take I-64W to I-81N to avoid DC, or is there a better way?I d prefer not to take I-40W to I-77N to I-79N. I take I-77 to Ohio all the time and I need a change of scenery.

One small trick in your usual route. When on I-77, take US 19N just north of Beckley and you ll connect with I-79 just south of Sutton. It s a nice drive, you go over the New River Gorge bridge, and it cuts a lot of time out of your drive if you were going to go to Charleston and up.If you re still looking for a change of pace, take US 19N from Morgantown into Pittsburgh. If that s not enough change of pace for you, how about going up to Richmond (I-85) and take I-64 across to Beckley (then do the US 19N trick).

i live in raleigh made that drive to ohio many times i would definitely avoid DC at 4 oclock my brother lives there now and thats just the start of rush hour and it will just be stop and go for a couple hours

64 to 81 is much better.
