Will florida extradite me from tennessee? -

I seriously doubt it but here s my situation.I recently went to Miami, Florida for a vacation. While I was there someone I know got in a fight with a valet parker and ran off. I was trying to hold him back and slung him down to make him stop. When the police came they arrested me for disorderly intoxication. They took me to jail and 2 days later I went to court and I was told if I pleaded no contest it would get dismissed. The judge never said anything about court cost. Got a letter in the mail today saying I owe 500 dollars! 100 for a public defender that I thought was free. There is no way in hell I m going to pay that because I didn t do anything wrong. So what will happen when I don t pay it?

First the courts will put a bench warrant out for your arrest. Then if you ever get pulled over for anythign you will be taken to jail. Then you will wait in jail until Florida makes up there mind when they will come get you., or if you are lucky just make you sit in there until you pay the $500, but I doubt they will let you off that easy. Usually they make you wait until they come get you, because they will charge you with contempt of court and then make you pay for that plus extraditing fees. It will likely cost you $1000 plus a couple of weeks in jail plus a very uncomfortable ride to Florida, which may take a couple of more weeks depending on the route of the US Marshalls.

You might want to put this in the Legal section rather than the Travel section, since it isn t a travel question.I wouldn t mess around with legal entities. Sounds like you DID do something wrong - public intoxication and fighting. There are ALWAYS court costs. If there s no way in hell you re going to pay it, then don t - but you should be prepared for the consequences.
