NEVER BEEN THERE...
What is you favorite thing to do at Disneyland and why?First of all, you need to understand our situation. We are not occasional visitors, such as those who come once in a lifetime. My family and I are annual passholders, and we go about once per week. So we have a unique perspective on the park that most people don t get. Everyone has their favorite things to do at the Disneyland Resort. My youngest loves one ride for awhile, then switches to another. For awhile, it was Splash Mountain. Currently, it s California Screamin . My favorite at Disneyland is Pirates of the Caribbean, and my fav at California Adventure is Soarin Over California. Mrs. Obviousman s favorite is the Jungle Cruise. One thing we all like to do is ride a few rides, then sit down at an outdoor restaurant and people watch. Another thing we like to do is go see the Aladdin Show in the Hyperion Theater, which is as good as a Broadway show. And one thing we like to see whenever we can are the parades and fireworks.Scenery? I don t really get what you mean. What is your favorite souvenir at Disneyland? My favorite souvenir at Disneyland is a baseball cap. I have about 20 of them in a stack on my dresser at home. I contantly wear them to the park. My second favorite souvenir is my pin vest. I have about 400 pins altogether, and one vest that has 116 pins on it. I also have a holiday pin vest that I wear for Christmas, which has only about 30 pins (for now). What is your favorite thing to shop for?Hats and pins. And Gallery of Light shadow boxes for Mrs. Obviousman. Those are her favorites. You can Google it and see what I mean. What was your favorite restaurant there? Our favorite restaurant there is the Blue Bayou. However, it s very pricey, so we can only go there for special occasions. Most times we either eat at Carnation Cafe on Main Street, or Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square. Both serve good food and provide excellent people watching opportunities. What did you remember about it?The Blue Bayou is the only restaurant inside a ride at Disneyland (Pirates of the Caribbean). It has very good Cajun-style food. Cafe Orleans also has a cajun-inspired menu. Our favorite entree is the Monte Cristo Sandwich (ham, turkey, and cheese on bread that is dipped in batter and deep-fried) along with a cup of gumbo, and a side of pommes frites (french fries with garlic and onion seasoning). Carnation Cafe has wonderful comfort food such as pot pies, roast beef, and steak sandwiches. What do your younger siblings or kids like at Disneyland? My youngest (8YO) likes a variety of things. Mostly, she just likes going. We try to rotate around to all the rides, since we go for short periods (rather than an all-day excursion like most visitors). She likes to ride faster rides like Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain, and loves the parades and fireworks almost as much as I do. When we eat, she generally gets mac and cheese, but recently discoverd that she loves the steak sandwich at Carnation Cafe. What do you older siblings or kids like at Disneyland? The older kids in our family (25, 22, and 19) generally feel that they are too cool for Disneyland. The rest of us are Disney junkies. What did you/your parents like at Disneyland? This is a bit of a repeat of the first question. However, we love the overall feel of Disneyland. It s clean, safe fun that s designed for adults as well as kids. You may not know the story of how Disneyland came to be: One day, while Walt Disney was with his two daughters at Griffith Park s merry-go-round, Walt wondered why someone couldn t build a place that would be fun for adults AND kids. He was originally going to build his park near the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, but the vision for the park quickly outgrew that tiny bit of land. So Walt built his park in Anaheim, wnere there was lots of land that was cheap. Most people think that Disneyland is just for kids, but it s universally loved by adults and kids alike. It was designed that way. Mrs. Obviousman and I even go here on dates. How did you spend time with your family? On our way to the park, we have a little routine: We try to guess which level in the Mickey Friends parking structure will be our parking spot: Pinocchio, Chip Dale, Daisy, Mickey, Goofy, Donald, or Minnie. On the way into the park, we each pick out a ride or attraction that we want to go on that day. We try to use Fast Passes when we can, and we usually call ahead and reserve a table at a sit-down place in the park. We have a lot of fun talking to people in line, finding out where they are from. If the park gets really busy or we get tired, we just go home, because we know we ll be back next week!
