Do I need a passport to fly to Canada? -

I m flying from Dallas, Texas, USA to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Do I need a valid passport to fly? Also, I will only be 17 at the time. Do I need notarized permission or anything from my parents?

You need a passport. Took my daughter to Toronto last year (she was 1.5 yr old then). And yes, you can get a US citizen passport at 17 (my daughter has her own) and you don t need parental permission as long as you have the info on where you are staying. If you have a hotel booking for example. If you are staying with a friend or relative, have them send you a letter stating that you are staying with them and a photocopy of their id/driving license with the address you are staying at. Will be required to fill up a form before you land in Toronto and if you have all these document proving you have a place to stay, the immigration officer won t hassle you.

Yes, as of June 1, 2009 everyone of any age needs a passport to fly to another country from the US.To get a passport you ll need to bring your birth certificate and both of your parents will have to go with you. If one can t go that parent will have to write a letter stating you have permission to get a passport. At 17 you don t need a letter of permission for the airline when you travel within the country, but some airlines require it when it s an international flight. Check with your airline of choice when you buy the ticket.

Yes, everyone must have a passport to fly outside the U.S. and Yes , you should carry a letter of parental permission. See 1st site to read the passport law, 2nd to see that Canada requires everyone under 18 to have parental permission, 3rd site for info on the letter of permission.
