Just west of Saint Raphaels Croatian Catholic Church in New York...? -

At the north east corner of a parking lot, on the south side of 41st St, about 501 there is an odd thing. Looking over a short wall you see, about 20 down, abandoned rail tracks. There is evidence that homeless people frequent this location and the tracks are rusted and over grown with vegetation. Anyone know what this is/ was? How far do the tracks run and how do you get down there?Thanks

That sounds like the upper part of the High Line. The High Line was an old abandoned freight rail line that went into the City on an elevated track. It was all grown over, and people who lived near it used it as outdoor space. Then the City reclaimed a large piece of it and turned into a sort of elevated park. The part that s been reclaimed is south of there, and runs to about 20th Street or so. They will renovate the entire thing someday.
