Is Atlanta overrated? -

It depends on what you re talking about.Tis Good:Nature - you ve got trees for miles (where they haven t overdeveloped) and you can t beat the view of the city from Stone Mountain or Kennesaw MountainEntertainment - though the big venues tend to be overpriced, you ve got a variety of entertainment to pick fromTis Fair:Job Market - depends on who you talk to - half my peeps are employed; half are not. I haven t been out of work for the past 5 years, and last year, I made more money than I ve ever made in my life (with a start up internet company at that) and even sold some of my paintings for the first time. And the me from 5 years before that was struggling financially. The Weather - I ll take winters here than in the Northeast, but for the summers? ugh! waaay too hot, and I ve been here for 30 years.Tis Bad:Clubbing/social scene = loads o pretenders flashing clothes, jewelry and cars they can t affordPolitical environment = no progressive dialogue between the partiesSocioeconomic = plenty of segregation and elitism abounds, between blacks and whites and within each group (I m not as familiar with Asian, Latino, and other communities)Tis Really Bad:I wish I could go ONE day without seeing a confederate flag or bumper sticker on somebody s truck

Depends on what you are rating it on.Atlanta has all the issues any large city has. High crime, corrupt politicians and teerrible traffic.It also has all of the advantages any large city has including job opportunity, nice housing, entertainment, sports and cultural events. Living in the city of Atlanta sux. Living near Atlanta is great.

Excuuuuse me, I m from New York. As far as we re concerned, everything else is overrated. :-)I can tell you that in New York Atlanta is losing friends. People used to have many good words to say about Atlanta. But that standing stopped a few years ago. Nowadays Atlanta is not high on many New Yorkers lists.Sorry, that s the way it is.

I like the answer from the person from NYC. Too funny. but yeah, Atlanta is way overrated. I have lived here for 31 years and STILL cannot figure out why people come here on vacations. Summers are brutally hot, concerts are way overpriced, hotels are just ridiculous, as well as parking prices downtown and around the outskirts. Its no better or worse than any other big city - which is why I live in E. Cobb, Marietta. nice and quiet out here. :)

well i think nyc overrated people paying $10,000 + for a 1 bedroom apartment while down here thats a mansion!

I was looking for inexpensive weekend trip ideas for southern California? -

My husband and I are going away for a weekend in January. I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas of any low cost trip ideas for southern California

Beach areas, getty museum, or Hollyweird.. Everything else will set you back a few bucks.

There is a ton to do for free but remember that most places you go in L.A. will not have free parking...In L.A. for a nice view of the city go to Griffith Observatory (it s free (even the parking) but you may have trouble finding parking so wear sneakers in case you have to hike up a little... The Grove / Farmer s Market if you want have a chance at seeing celebrities (parking is free at the Farmer s Market area if you validate your parking)Venice Beach is very cool and a trip to visit... definitely see that! Also, Santa Monica Pier... I guess obviously the Walk of Fame for the true tourist experience lol...You can try to book some show tapings if you know when you are going to be there for sure (you have to get tickets ahead of time through the net or through phone), also you can look into some studio tours as wellI mean Los Angeles / Hollywood / Beverly Hills is nice but unless you visit like Rodeo Dr. or something there isn t TOO much to do just wandering around in general...For a very cute Mexican Plaza feel visit Olvera Street (it also has a free tour / museum of L.A. s first house right in the plaza... The Santa Monica 3rd St. Promenade has cute shops and have some cool street performers... especially in the afternoon and on weekends... Drive the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) as well :)Theme parks: Universal Studios, Disneyland (In Anaheim), Sea World (in San Diego), L.A. Zoo, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park (both are obviously in San Diego, etc...The Museum of Tolerance is also a nice place to go for an educational experience :)You can choose what you like and map out an appropriate itinerary :)

Do you have to go to school if you live in yonkers? -

I m moving to yonkers and would like to know if i can go to school outside of yonkers. Me and my sister are in highschool but in manhattan, ny. my moms lawyer told us the NYC department of schools can sue us with even 10,000 dollars for doing that? Is that true?????

You have to attend the schools of the school district you reside in. If you live in Yonkers, you have to go to Yonkers public schools. Yonkers is not part of the New York City school system, so you will have to change schools. If you lie or try to hide the fact that you moved, you could potentially have to pay back tuition. It is possible for a non-resident to attend school in Manhattan, but you have to pay for it, and the whole point of public school is that it s free.
