Going to NYC weekend before Christmas...? -

Flying out of ATL, which airport should I fly into...being the easiest to get from the airport to the hotel near times square?? Should I go LaGuardia, Newark or JFK?? What s the efficient mode of transportation from the airport to the hotel? Taxi, Shuttle or subway? Also, it s the weekend before Christmas...what to do and what to wear? Im a 21 year old female going to visit...lots of opinions appreciated...

Newark might be easiest since you can take the monorail and then a train straight into midtown (you ll be let out at 32nd and 7th, which is totally within walking distance of Times Square). JFK would also be doable, but it s a pain to get out of LGA using public transportation. Taking a taxi at all during Christmas time would be terrible, they always announce gridlock alert days around the holidays and encourage people to use mass transit.Bring warm clothes and comfy shoes. Check out the tree in Rockefeller Center, go shopping, look at the store windows, see a show ... It s NY, you can find everything here.

Newark - You catch AirTrain directly in the airport and take it to the Newark Train Station and transfer to Amtrak (fare cost more than NJ Transit) or NJ Transit train into Penn Station Manhattan - which is about 10 blocks from Times Square. This will be the most efficient method if you want cheap vs. a taxi cab. Taxi cab will cost you about $50-60 bucks into midtownJFK - Taxi cab to midtown will be about $45 bucks flat rate. Or if you have all the time in the world, you can take AirTrain directly in the airport to Jamaica Station/Howard Beach Station and either take the Long Island Railroad (more than a subway ride) to Penn Station or Subway ($2.50 per ride) to Times Square.LaGuardia - Taxi cab will be the most efficient and ideal way. However, you can do public transport via bus. LaGuardia is my preferred airport of the three, since it s closest to the city and not JFK.

For you, Newark is best even though it is in New Jersey. You will be able to take a PATH train into Manhattan that will take you to Herald Square, right near Macys. From there, Times Square is one stop away by subway, but at your age, I would simply walk it since it is a very short distance away and you will see more of the city that way as well as saving the $2.25 subway fare. Please bring a warm winter coat or jacket as temperatures are typically in the 30 s this time of year and can get colder. Here are articles about what to see at Christmas and how the trains and buses work:http://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/article

It has been getting pretty cold at night here already,so by the time Christmas comes you will really need to rug up with a warm coat and layers. As far as what else to wear, it is entirely up to you. I doubt you will need snow boots or anything but I can usually get around in tights and a dress with a warm coat at christmas time so it isn t bitterly cold. As far as how to get into the city, I generally fly into JFK which is my personal favourite but that being said I never have to rely on public transport and I get someone to pick me up so its not really relevant. Taxi is the best if you have some $ because its easy but otherwise just go on a train in. Be careful getting on the subway with loads of bags though because no doubt people will be pissed at you for taking up space and also don t even think about getting in during peak hours, just get a cab instead. There are loads of things going on around Christmas so its the best time to do be in the city. you could go and see the christmas windows at the large department stores, go iceskating in the park, Rockafeller centre has some great christmas stuff, go shopping of course, oh and make sure you go to FAO schwartz toy shop it is amazing at christmas. Try to stay away from the typical tourist things like SATC tour, and all other tours they are really laclustre.

What are some affordable things I can do (and eat) in Honolulu during December? -

I ll be on vacation there for 2 weeks.

On Fridays, the Honolulu Advertiser has a special section on activities that will be going on over the next week. Many of them are free or low cost. You can go to their web site before you arrive check things out in advance, or be sure to buy one on the first Friday you are here. http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pSome fun things that I can think of off the top of my head are:Art on the Fence - outside the zoo at Kapiolani Park on the weekends, local artists display their art for sale. Looking is free lots of fun.http://www.artonthezoofence.com/Drive around downtown after dark. Many of the buildings are lighted for the holidays. You can go on a City Lights trolley ride for not a whole lot if you are not renting a car. The city hall is filled with decorated trees,http://honolulucitylights.org/First Fridays downtown are a lot of fun, art galleries are free , there are street musicians, there are lots of reasonably priced restaurants street vendors.http://firstfridayhawaii.com/There are lots of good hikes, most cost nothing. There is a small fee to get into the Diamond Head crater for that hike.http://www.frommers.com/destinations/oahPearl Harbor really should be on everyone s must do list.http://www.nps.gov/valr/planyourvisit/inIf you are here the 1st w/e in December, you should go to the Pacific Handcrafters Guild craft fair. The things for sale aren t necessarily cheap, but they are gorgeous. They may be worth the splurge, but even if you don t want to spend $ it s fun just looking.http://pacifichandcraftersguild.com/evenOf course, the beaches are always free there are plenty of places to sight see that will only cost you the gas to get there. Some of my favorite beaches include: Kailua /or Lanikai on the Windward side, Waimea Bay on the north shore (probably not good for swimming in December d/t waves) cockroach cove just south of the Blow Hole in East Oahu (made famous by the kissing scene in the movie From Here to Eternity). Sightseeing suggestions: the Pali Lookout, the mini-circle island tour around east Oahu, or the full circle island tour, Byodo in Temple in Temple Valley, Kaneohe on the windward side.Inexpensive places to catch a bite: Keneke s in Waimanalo, Kakaako Kitchen in Ward Center, Ono Hawaiian Food on Kapahulu Ave, and Maple Garden/King Tsin (Chinese food) in Moiliili. If you want to splurge, consider Tsukiji s Fish Market in Ala Moana Center for a great buffet (mostly Japanese food - great sushi sashimi) or the Willows in Moiliili, also a good buffet great ambiance.

Aloha - congratulations on 2 weeks in Hawaii - thats wonderful!!If you can arrange it, get a hotel with at least a fridge/microwave, you can do breakfast snacks in your room and save a ton of cash, can also pack a picnic lunch now and then, the savings is great and you have so many amazing parks beaches to choose from for your picnicI highly recommend plate lunch - there are tons of plate lunch places on Oahu alone and they are always a great value - plate lunch is usually a scoop of rice, macaroni salad, slaw and 1-3 meat and/or fish entrees (sometimes even spam, a local favorite) - all usually for $7 or less. And trust me this is a lot of food! Some places I really enjoy are: South Shore Grill, in Waikiki near the zoo.. and Keneke s in Waimanolo, Also try Zippy s - they are all over the island and are simple, fast and cheap. I had an omlette there last trip and it was really good! Dixie s Grill Bar-B-Que is another great cafe with excellent prices. There are a lot of things on Oahu that are inexpensive or free:Waikiki Beach - lots of activities, people watching, fun spot to be!Pearl Harbor - USS Arizona MemorialValley of Temples - Boyodo In Temple - $5Snorkel Hanauma Bay - $5Hike Diamond Head Crater - $5Waikiki Aquarium $7Find a local farmers market for amazing fresh fruit flowers (also good food savings)Drive or take The Bus to the North Shore to see world class surfingHaloha Blow Hole is really neat and a great place to watch for whalesRoyal Hawaiian Band at the Iolani PalaceKapahuli Pier - free outdoor movies other activitiesFree performances at Ala Moana Shopping CenterThere is so much more to see and do, check it out and have a wonderful trip!

in waiane theres a place called faiths place. just a random place but they sell the best burgers ever!! and their fries and stuff they have too. but everywhere you look in hawaii there will be some random place you can eat good food for a small price.as what you can do, umm the beach, hiking, in the big island theres snow. jsut do the usual stuff i guess

If you re gonna be on Oahu, I HIGHLY recommend heading up to the North Shore. It s beautiful and it tends to be less crowded. There s lots of little shops and restaurants and of course the world famous Banzai Pipeline. Oh and don t leave without getting shave ice from Matsumoto s.

What are some beaches near Seattle? -

Hello, I live in Seattle and need to go to a beach so I can get some sand and Pacific ocean water for a friend for Christmas. I don t own a car, so I have to take the bus and I was just wondering what are some nearby beaches I could go to? Thanks!

There s Madison Park Beach, Golden Gardens Park, Loman Beach Park, Howell Beach, Madrona Beach, Magnuson Beach, and Matthews Beach.

Just to clarify, Seattle is not anywhere near the Pacific - Seattle sits on Puget Sound. The water nearby is salt water, mixed with the freshwater runoff from our local rivers. If you want to get to an actual Pacific Beach, it won t be easy without a car. I d look into what airporter services are available to get you out to the Olympic Peninsula or down to the Long Beach area.If you are content with Puget sound sand and water, then I suggest going to a place like Golden Gardens Park in Seattle (near Shilshole), or Richmond Beach. Our sand is not super white. You may not be getting quite the gift that you think you are getting.Good Luck!

You will freeze your butt off even in the dead of summer. there are no beaches. there are 2 places with sand (Alki and Golden Gardens) but the water is like icebergs and stings.

The Pacific is hours away from Seattle! If you ll settle for Puget Sound water, grab a bus to Golden Gardens in Ballard. Nice park and beach, but don t go near sunset!

Alki Point is the closest and you can probably get there on the bus. West Seattle.

Alki Beach is fun - if you go there try the fish n chips at Spuds - yum..

Try looking around the water.

seatle beach duh!!! lol
