How long would it take for a white persons skin to turn to leather if he/she lived permanently in Hawaii? -

I am from South Carolina. I don t know if the sun is worse there in Hawaii. If I always use sunscreen everyday would it be ok, and would my skin age just like it would living in SC or any other cooler/colder place?

I grew up in Alabama, and yeah, the sun here is much stronger, even though South Carolina gets more uncomfortably hot and humid in the summer (love your mountains and beach, though, hafta say). If you use sunscreen every day and try to stay out of the sun between 9 AM and 3 PM, you ll be OK.

Columbus, Cleveland Weather in December 2009? -

Visiting Columbus and Cleveland mid December.I d like to know if it s going to snow. Any Winter events to look out for- especially since X mas is around the corner ?

You may get some snow in Cleveland, but usually no more than a few inches (most snow storms don t hit till January). The temperature can be anywhere from 0 or below to 40+. December weather can vary greatly from year to year...Generally its around 30 s. Columbus probably won t see much snow, if any. In my opinion Columbus can seem colder because it tends to be windier than Cleveland...Christmas events in the area, there are probably Christmas plays or concerts, Check ticketmaster or cleveland orchestra website. There s always zoolights at the cleveland or columbus zoo.

We had some snow yesterday, but it was very light. Today was sunny and 48 degrees around 3PM, but it felt nice until you got downtown. Downtown it s always freezing.Last year it did not snow in December. Same for the year before that. It s been colder this year than the last two so it might snow, but I don t know. According to the Weather Channel, for the next week the temperature will be from 30-45 degrees and mostly rain.. =] Hope this helps.

Don t miss our FREE Christmas Light show. It s at Ghostly Manor Thrill Center 3319 Milan Rd. Sandusky, OH You sit in your car and listen to 5 Christmas songs that dance to over 75,000 lights. (Channel 99.7) for more info call 419-626-4467.As for the weather, it changes everyday and some times from minute to minute. Like today it s 38 degrees in the morning but it s sunny and feels nice. Tomorrow it s going to rain, so it will be bone chilling. I suggest layer. :)

Im moving to Houston and im thing bout Sugarland or Sharpstown are they bad areas? -

I ve heard very bad things about Sharpstown

Sugarland is a good area, but Sharpstown is not.

Sugarland is a very desirable town to live in. Friendswood and Pearland aren t bad either. West University Place and Bellaire are great and in the middle of Houston (more or less). Where you should live depends on where you will work. Try to find a place close to your workplace. Spending one hour on the road each way is no fun. If you pay attention to the local news, you will notice that there is a shooting every few days in the part of the city called the southwest.

You have heard correctly. A lot of my friends live out there there s always crap going on with the pigs. Sugarland is a very nice suburb of Houston with great schools but can be a little pricey when it comes to buying a house. In short:Sugarland: NICE, nice parks, schools, etcSharpstown: BAD: gangs, drive by shootings, GHETTO!

Sharpstown is being overtaken by Houston s inner city sprawl, Sugarland is better IMOhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpstown,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Land,Even better would be, Katy or The Woodlands

They are very different locations very different neighborhoods. Sugarland is further out but a MUCH better community. There are occasional shootings at Sharpstown Mall.

Sugarland is alot better, but still not the best place outside the city. But, if I had to decide between the 2, i would say Sugarland definitely.

Do not move to the Sharpstown area. Sugar Land is much better.http://houstoncrimemaps.com/neighborhood

sharpstown is basically the hood lol

sugarland is much safer than sharpstown

no, Sugar land is the BEST.Try lo live in the first colony area of sugar land, sweetwater area...its great here:)

Another vote for Sugar Land definately!!

I ve lived near Sharpstown but not that close and yes it is a BAD area to live . Sugarland is much safer

GIRL please do not move to sharpstown sugarland is way better,!!!!!!!

Wednesday before Thanksgiving leaving Manhattan? -

The car will be at 100th St. on W. side; the passenger in Times Sq. at 1 p.m. Should we meet her near Lincoln T or have her meet us and take G.W. Bridge? We want to take I-80 West. Thank you!

Suggestion: Have her meet you at 100th street, W. side (you re already uptown), then take the George. No having to drive downtown fighting traffic. 80W begins a few feet from the George. That traffic getting to, and near the Linc. will probably be brutal, no matter what time (especially with every carrier bus you can name coming out of Port Auth., and trucks). It s the biggest travel day of the year. If you go through the Linc., you ll deal with 3W (relatively short), then 46W, then the 46-23-80 Junction-tricky navagation if you ve never done it before-you have to really pay attention to the overhead signs and get in the correct lane, otherwise you could end up on the wrong route. From the George, it s straight out to 80W. Be careful around Paterson if you re going that far. Lots of merging and exiting.Happy Turkey Day!

I would suggest telling the passenger to either wait in Times Square or meet the car somewhere near the tunnel. You can pick up the passenger near the tunnel, go through it and once in New Jersey, just take 3 west until you meet up with 80. It really doesn t pay for the car to come all the way down from 100 street then turn around and go back up to the bridge. One o clock should be early enough to beat the rush coming out of the city. Good luck and have a nice holiday.

PROJECT! hotel average price? for a week in Phoenix? -

whats the average price to stay in a hotel for a week

you have the internet, look it up yourself.

If you are coming now it will be around $1000. If you come during MLB spring training it will be about $1500. That s for a nice safe place.Off beat places that are OK will be around $700. That s truck stop hotels where deisel engines run all night, but no one gets killed and the pool is heated, plus there is a continental breakfast of donuts and coffee in the morning.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Where is the best place to stay in New York City? -

I am going to New York for my birthday on December 16 for a few days and I want to know of a nice place to stay. I ve never been so I need to know a good place to stay close to all the shops and also to see times square and all the decorations...if that is all close to each other.. which hotels do you reccommend? Price is not really a barrier since it is for my birthday I will splurge!

Well, if price is REALLY not a barrier, then I would suggest staying in one of the luxury hotels along Central Park South (see link to map, below), like the Plaza or the Ritz-Carlton, or the Essex House, etc. , and be sure to get a room with a Central Park view, it ll be spectacular! On the other hand, they are VERY expensive, so, if price turns out to be a problem after all, then why not stay at one of the affordable hotels offered by the NY Inns Hotel Group (see link, below). They have three very nice hotels right in Manhattan, in the Murray Hill (near Times Square), Union Square (near the East and West Village) and Upper West Side (near Lincoln Center and Central Park) neighborhoods, and the rooms are nice, the service is good, and they re affordable, too! Check out the link below to see their webpage, and, no, I don t work for them or anything like that, I m just a fan.Happy Birthday, good luck, and welcome to the Big Apple!!

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Staten Island or Brooklyn. Brooklyn is rich in culture and Staten Island is the most suburban part, really quiet, calm, but still exotic. Of course, if you want to full NYC experience, I recommend Brooklyn or Manhattan.

There are plenty of hotels in Times Square. Depending on your budget, may I recommend the link below.Good luckNative New Yorker

My house i ts next to a dumpster bin and its full of all the luxuary you want Ive a map of times square and theres a starbucks around the corner ah sure youll be grand.Lady we cant have it all..

Travelling to New York... What is in each district? -

I have been looking at a map of Manhattan as i want to book a hotel before i go and i was wondering what all the different areas are... E.G. Midtowns East West , The Garment District , Greenwich village Soho (TriBeCa) etc... What are the cool places to stay? Which areas should i avoid? Also are there any links to websites that may explain what each area is like?

Well, the link below is to a very good webpage from New York Magazine all about Greenwich Village.Just scroll down the page for dining, shopping and nightlife recommendations, and the links on the left side of the page will take you to similar pages about all of New York City s other neighborhoods, too...

Is it faster to buy concert tickets from the seller in person, or to buy them on line? -

I wouldn t neccessarily say online is faster, since purchasing them at the booth gets you instant gratification, but it s definitely easier online. You will have them before going to the show, and you are guaranteed to get tickets - not always the case if you wait and buy them at the event. Tickets are usually a little bit cheaper online, but they also usually charge a random fee, like a venue fee or something to make back the extra $$ you save. Sometimes you can order tickets online and pick them up at the event rather than have them mailed to you, that way you can guarantee your tickets, but don t have to worry about forgetting them or losing them.

On-line and pick them up at WILL CALL. Sometimes the lines at the show location are really much toooooo long....and you have to make a special trip over there to get them...needless hassle...

Because of fake tickets I personally would buy thru the hotel on line or in person when you arrive.

Whats a good, cheap, warm, state I could move to? -

okay people, Im sick of this COLD WASHINTON WEATHER! so I was wondering if anyone on this vast earth knows a fantasticly warm state that I could move to. I was thinking california but that place is to expensive, so this warm place needs to be relativly cheap.

Arizona or Texas. Texas is really cheap. You can compare here: http://www.cityrating.com/costofliving.a

Virginia is man cheap and quite hot.It has good high schools, Virginia Beach and Alexandria are in the top ten lists to live in.It is the closest to the capital and also has the 2nd oldest university in usa.(William and Mary)It was also the best state of the year in buisness matters.

Arizona

Catalina Island located near California.

The southern half of Texas should qualify. If you do not mind 107F in May. El Paso is quite cheap to live in.

I want to work at the Seattle International Airport, HELP PLEASE? -

I ve tried to find some information on how to work there but I can t seem to find anything. Please help me.Thanks

Commonly known as Sea Tac ...The Port of Seattle is the governing government agency. You also might want to check Highline Community College which has programs which train you for a variety of airport careers.

Check all the shops (restaurants, newsstand, etc.), airlines, airline vendors (like food service and janitorial companies). Also if you have a commercial driver s license, the rental car and shared van services. Also check the TSA and air traffic control (ATC). ATC makes a lot of money and only needs a high school diploma and willingness to go to Oklahoma City for training. There s a little bit of checking to make sure terrorists don t apply but not much.

What is New Orleans like? -

British student who has recently been offered a place at Tulane and was interested in what New Orleans is really like as I have never been.Crime? Social Divisions? Good food? Sports? Job Opportunities? Quality of Life? Thanks

New Orleans is one of the world s special places and remains so even after Katrina devastated the city in 2005.To specifically answer your questions:Crime? New Orleans has a high murder rate because drug dealers are killing each other and the still-reduced population caused the rate to skyrocket (rate = population divided by crimes). It s a lot like the violence within the Yardie community in the UK. However, other crime is at or below the average for cities. Use very basic common sense + stay away from people who buy/sell/use crack cocaine and your chances of being the victim of anything worse than a parking ticket or hangover are very low.Social Divisions? African Americans are still disadvantaged but New Orleans was never as bad as most of the South and there has been enormous progress since the civil rights acts of the 1960s. In many ways, the Black/White conflict today is the self-serving belief among some community leaders that Blacks should now be able to discriminate against Whites. Basically a return to segregation, but with Blacks in charge. The rhetoric can be found in the public discussions regarding who should be the next Mayor (election next February). This is the New Orleans daily newspaper: http://www.nola.com/Good food? Oh, yeah - and all types. Bad restaurants simply don t survive in New Orleans.Sports? Mostly American. Baseball, basketball, US football. There are sports bars with multiple screens that will show European football on request - if you can deal with the time difference. An example near Tulane is Cooter Brown s: http://www.cooterbrowns.com/main.html If you mean personal sports, there is hunting, fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, etc. nearby. Job Opportunities?New Orleans was not hit as badly by the current recession as many cities. International students can legally work, and you should be able to find a job. However, talk to the university about options and make sure you don t violate the visa requirements. Quality of Life? The city and metro area are still recovering from Katrina, and the process will take more years. Realize that Katrina was the worst natural disaster in US history and turned 90,000 square miles (an area larger than the UK) into a rubbish heap overnight. More buildings were destroyed in New Orleans alone (a small part of the disaster area) on the morning of August 29, 2005 than were destroyed in London by German bombs/rockets during all of WWII (the death toll in London was of course far, far higher). Fortunately, the historic parts of the city were all built on high ground and didn t flood. There has also been huge progress in the past 4 years and most of the metro area now looks like Katrina never happened. In practical terms, the city metro area are operating normally. Utilities like electricity/water/phone and city services like police/fire/ems/sanitation were all problematic in 2005-2006 but are back to normal. The area s entertainment industry has also recovered. The weather may be a factor for you. New Orleans has mild winters and the city stays green all year most years (rarely freezes and almost never snows). We pay for the nice winters with brutally hot humid summers (May to October). Most people love New Orleans but not all. I hope you like it!

What part of Oakland CA is NOT ghetto or Dangerous? -

My job is relocating to the bay area, that means I am too. I have been looking at places in the East Bay area. I am wondering are there any parts of Oakland that are NOT ghetto? (no offense intended) I don t mean the secluded Oakland hills either.(I LOVE city living) I am talking about places that are close to shopping and stuff

Here are some nice neighborhoods of Oakland (besides the hills) that are also near shopping districts:- Rockridge (near College and Claremont)- Montclair (near Mountain and LaSalle)- Lake Merritt Lakeshore (around Lake Merritt, and near Grand Ave. and Lakeshore Ave.)- Piedmont (I m talking about the part of Oakland near Piedmont Ave., not the city of Piedmont, which is very expensive.)Of course, all nice neighborhoods in the Bay Area have very high housing prices compared to the rest of the country, and Oakland is no different. The neighborhoods I mentioned above are some of the more fashionable or yuppier neighborhoods of Oakland, but there are other possibilities:- The Temescal district (around 51st and Telegraph) is an improving neighborhood, with an influx of good restaurants in recent years.- Much of Oakland that lies above the area bounded on the west by Telegraph Ave. and MacArthur Blvd. is pretty decent. I know some people who live northeast of the V formed by highways 13 and 580 (in the Laurel District), and their neighborhood seems quite pleasant, although not fancy.---The answer above (Sobrante Park) is a bad joke; this has a reputation for drugs and crime. You might take a look here:http://www.oakland.com/neighborhoods/Although this site has a real-estate-boosterism ring to it, it describes the nicer parts of the city. The one thing there that surprises me on this site is West Oakland. This used to be a grimy and poor industrial district. Perhaps it s improving, but I m just not familiar with it (except as the last BART stop before San Francisco). I think it still has a bad reputation for crime. If you live in the Bay Area, you have to get used to the fact that for the price of a near-mansion in much of the country, you get a small house on a small piece of land here. After the real estate bust, however, this is a much better time to buy than a couple of years ago. Rentals are also relatively expensive. You mentioned shopping. The neighborhoods I listed above all have nice shopping districts, but mostly with small local stores. For more shopping options, it s a quick ride on BART from Oakland into downtown San Francisco. The only problem is that it s difficult to find parking at many BART stations, so living within walking distance of BART offers an advantage. Of course, there are also large malls scattered through the Bay Area, but not in Oakland.I mentioned that neighborhoods that lie above MacArthur Blvd. are mostly safe, but there may be some exceptions. For instance, the area around MacArthur in east Oakland (e.g., around 73rd Ave.) is a high-crime neighborhood. Here s a link to a map of homicides in Oakland. I don t want to scare you, but it gives you some notion of which neighborhoods are safer.http://www.sfgate.com/maps/oaklandhomici

Actually there are none.. sorry. But as long as your wearing a raiders jersey and keep to yourself you will be safe and fine. Good luck! :)

Can I tour LA with no car? and alone? -

I m in PA. What is there to see? Which beach is your favorite? I ve never been to that side of the country let alone California.

Yes, you can tour LA with no car. You can also walk from PA to NYC, right? It s about as easy. Bottom line: LA public transit is slow an ineffective, due to the size of the area (as big as Rhode Island). There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of must sees. Visit as many as you have time for.:Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors cant be wrong. #1 Destination. Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.Even if you dont visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyre free to visit. Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood Highland complex has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater. The El Capitan theater, right across the street, is where Disney shows their movies. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors. Olvera Street/Union Station: Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA, and it emphasizes our Mexican heritage. In addition to the Avila Adobe (oldest building in LA), you can eat at some pretty good Mexican Restaurants, do a little shopping, and taste a churro. If you dont want to go to Tijuana, this is as close as it gets without going there. Union Station has great architecture from a bygone age. Also, you are 2 blocks from Phillippes (see below).Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste. Santa Monica: Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach. Sunset Boulevard began as a route between the stars posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the Sunset Strip on its way.Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping The Price is Right . You might even get in.Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.Getty Museum - The Getty s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art, architecture, or view better, the Getty is sure to please. Free.Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.Places to eat:In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.Pinks Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.Tommys Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.Canters Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.Phillippes: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, its hot.Titos Tacos: Voted best tacos in LA, even though its in Culver City. The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.Places to Stay:Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. Another one is the Best Western Sunset Plaza. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.Places to Shop:Third Street Promenade, Santa MonicaThe Grove, Los AngelesAmericana @ Brand, GlendaleBeverly Center, Los AngelesCitadel Outlets, CommerceBrea Mall, BreaThe Block at Orange, OrangeSouth Coast Plaza, Costa MesaFashion Island, Newport BeachSantee Alley, Los Angeles

One place you should DEFINITELY eat is Kassava. They have the bast Caribbean food in the US period. It is absolutely delicious and pretty inexpensive. Report Abuse

you can do with public transit but to get anyway its going to take longer (and slowly) to get to where you wantto and most of the time you will have to transfer (sometime more then once)you will be told a car is necessary... yes its necessary if you don t mind getting stuck on the 405 freewayfor hours on end...you can visit universal, Disneyland, knotts , hollywood, famerrs market, rodeo drive, santa monica beach, and malibu, venice ,redonodo beaches (all depends what YOU like ) since we don t know what you likeI m afraid to suggest something and turns you dont like it!

The metro out here is really good, but there are a million buses so you should figure that out before hand. There s all kinds of stuff out here; aquariums, theme parks, museums, you name it. My favorite beach is in Malibu on PCH. It s really small and secluded. If you want to be around a lot of people you could go to Santa Monica, Venice, Laguna. Dockweiler is a nice beach too, but it doesn t have all the frills of the others. If you have a car you should go for a long drive down PCH It runs along the water and is really beautiful.

It is possible to tour the Los Angeles area by public transportation but it definitely is NOT recommended. Please understand that the Los Angeles area is roughly 50 miles wide by 110 miles long. Things here are really spread out. The public transportation was basically designed to accommodate commuters going to and from work, not tourists. Just the vast distances you wil need to travel will be extremely time consuming. As to beaches it s Winter and (for us) it is too chilly to spend much time at any of the beaches. You may want to wait until the weather warms up.

Is Broadway downtown New York City? -

Broadway, as a street, runs from the norther edge of the Bronx, down to lower Manhattan (at Battery Park). The term Broadway as it applies to the theater district is in midtown (actually west midtown) as the street runs through that area.

Broadway is a road that extends from the southern tip of Manhattan, all the way up through Manhattan and the Bronx, to points even farther north. Here in New York City, downtown refers to the southernmost parts of Manhattan. In many other cities, downtown refers to the center. But here, it s more a geographic term. Downtown in this city is the financial district. Broadway s theaters are farther north, call it midtown.

The most famous Broadway in NYC is runs through all of Manhattan. The theatre district on Broadway (which is in Midtown) is the really famous part of Broadway.Broadyway itself runs from the very bottom of Manhattan, over the Broadyway Bridge (which goes over the Hellsgate River) and through the Bronx all the way to Westchester county.Broady (in Manhattan) was orignally a Native American trail. There also happens to be a Broadway in Brooklyn. That Broadway runs from Kent Avenue all the way out to East New York, and most of that section of Broadway has the J M and Z running overhead on it.There is also a Broadway in Queens. That Broadyway Starts at the Long Island City/Astoria Border and runs out towards Elmhurst/Corona.

Broadway streches the lenght of Manhattan from Lower Manhattan to Upper Manhattan, and on through the Bronx. If you re referring to the area where the big theaters are located, the Theater District, it is located in Midtown, Manhattan.Good luckNative New Yorker

Broadway starts at the foot of the Staten Ferry building and goes all the way thru Manhattan into the Bronx. It s the only major road that extends all of the way thru Manhattan. As far as Downtown, some consider Greenwich Village Downtown, others would say Downtown is around City Hall. When someone tells me she is going Downtown I automatically think Greenwich Village.

Broadway the road goes from downtown Manhattan into Westchester County.Broadway, as in the Theater district, is in Midtown.

Broadway starts at Bowling Green and runs almost all the way to Canada as US Rt. 9.

Broadway runs from downtown to uptown

part of it. it is also mid town and up town.
