Nope but its not the hotel, its the person that takes your reservation. He/She can be cool or a jerk. I did it as caesar palace and got a jacuzzi room for free which would of cost me an extra $100 bucks a night! You sandwich the $20 bill between your drivers license and credit card, but no i havent stayed at the PH yet to try!

That trick is a cruel joke. The only way to upgrade a room is to pay for it or deal with the hotel manager. The desk clerk has NO authority, money or not.

Mountain Cabins w/Snow within 8 hour drive of Los Angeles? -

We re looking to rent a cabin in the mountains, preferably where there s a good chance of snow, during the xmas to new years week. Where other than Idyllwild, Mountain High and Big Bear should we be looking? We d be willing to drive up to 8 hours from Los Angeles.

If you are talking about an eight hour drive - Mammoth Lakes and Sequoia/Kings National Park both easily meet your time/drive requirements.Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort is in Mammoth Lakes so you go skiing and snowboarding, etc.Seqouia should have some snow after the current storm that is coming through right now.My personal choice would be Sequoia/Kings because it is much prettier from a natural perspective than Mammoth and a whole lot less busy with traffic and crowds. Wolverton Ski Resort is in Sequoia. Also Sequoia is much, much, much less expensive. If you are hardy soul you can probably even find winter camping sites.

Both Mammoth Mountain and Lake Tahoe are within 8 hours (ok Tahoe might be right around 8 hours) and have BEAUTIFUL snow and scenery. Real, powdery snow, not the frozen ice chips of Big Bear and Mountain High.
