Anyone live in Omaha, Nebraska? -

Im english, i moved to alaska 3 years ago and i lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve it there that is my home. and i just recently (3 months ago) moved back to this **** hole (no offense to the UK-its just not my thing anymore hah) aaaand i just found out that i might be able to move to Omaha Nebraska sooooo considering I am 17 and lets just say uhh, i like to have fun - anyone give me an idea of what it s like there?? thanks xxxxxxxx

Native Omahan, lived here for 51 years so far, raised 4 great kids.I love Omaha, but there are two things you might not like so much...1. Like most mid-sized cities, it can be tough to find teen-oriented things to do. We have the basics- movies, colleges, shopping, malls, places to eat, lots of music venues, coffeehouses, world-class zoo, etc. but many teens lament that there is not much to do here. (Note on the music- Omaha is considered a pretty decent indy music town by some magazine that tracks that stuff.)2. There are no mountains, oceans, caves, glaciers, big lakes, old big timber forests, etc. Most of our state parks are pretty but rather flat and bland. Not bad for generic camping, fishing, etc. but not real exciting.I think there is a lot of great stuff here and nearby, and I think you should give it a chance.

yeah the UK is probably more fun than Omaha....but at least you are closer to Alaska and the Rockies. You should probably steal a car and drive there.

Then get ready to be bored sh*tless because Omaha is a sh*t hole!

How long does it for a person to ride a bicycle from Metra Pacific West quot;Elburnquot; Station to NIU (Chicagoland)? -

I m thinking of taking a train to elburn and riding a bike to Northern Illinois University in hopes of saving gas money. Does anyone have an idea?

But the train is going to cost money, too. It s 16 miles from the station to the school. I m not really sure how long it will take, I guess an hour?Maybe you could advertise in Craigslist for a ride-share with another student?

Are you right in downtown Chicago or somewhere else? The UP West Line does not go quite that far. There was a bus that brought people from the Elburn Station to NIU but it does not run as frequently as the Metra trains arrive from what I saw before.Look at the link below which shows you NIU options, everything from this to ride sharing.As for the biking yes a 16 mile trip will take most people in decent shape an hour or a little more though keep in mind it s a little more hilly inland in the west burbs than in Chicago. I know from living in Glen ellyn though honestly I m not as familiar with the route from Elburn to Dekalb.Good for you for looking into mass transit - I hope it works out for you.

Where is a train station in NJ that can get me to NYC? -

My family is coming up to visit me a week before Christmas. We want to spend a day in NYC while they are here. I am new to the NJ area, but know there are stations that I can go to and ride the train into the city, however, I don t know where they are. I would be coming from the Atlantic City area. I know there is a train that goes from A.C. to NYC, but we don t want to be on a time constraint while we are there. I am a little familiar with the NYC area, since I have driven through there on occasion, and that s why I thought my best option would be to park outside of the city and take a train in. So, any suggestions would help. Thanks!!

Take the Garden State north from Atlantic City, exiting at Exit 131A. The sign will be marked Metropark . Follow the signs a very short distance to the New Jersey Transit (NJT) train station. Park in their large garage, which is quite safe and charges about $5 per day. Walk across from the garage into the station and purchase NJT tickets to Penn Station in Manhattan. Trains run frequently throughout the day. The trip takes about 40 minutes. When you arrive at Penn Station, you re at 34th Street and 7th Avenue, in easy walking distance to Times Square. The return trip is just the opposite of the above. I ve done this, and it s worked out nicely. There are other options, but this one avoids almost all of the road traffic in the New York City area.

unfortunately, due to the the way NJT operates, the only station south of trenton with any direct service to Penn Station is Atlantic City via the weekend only Atlantic City Express Service (ACES) any oter day requires taking the regular Atlantic city Line train to 30th street- Philadelphia, then ether Amtrak (one train, more expensvie but faster) or SEPTA R7 to Trenton and NJT Northeast Corridor to NYP (two trains, slower but cheaper)

If you head north on the Parkway, you have a couple of options.If you head north on the Parkway, you can get off at Exit 98 for Belmar where there is a station.The easiest would be to go up to Exit 131 and follow the signs to Metropark . There is a large station there.

You would have to take a bus. NJTRANSIT.com. It think it is 319 line. But the transit web page will help you. The train is weekend only and very expensive, from reports that I read.

Well, the train that goes to and from AC is called the Atlantic City Express Service (ACES). However, ACES only operates on the weekend. If you traveling during the week, you will need to take the NJ Transit bus route 319 from AC to NYC.If you perferred to drive, may I recommend several trains station with large parking facilities where you can park you car for the day and take the train into the City.Metropark Station in the Township of Iselin, you can park there for $9 a day. The garages right next door to the train station, so you can take the Northeast Corridor Line from there to Penn Station.Secaucus Junction also has a large parking facility. You can park there for about $5 a day and take the train into the City, or to Hoboken for connection to the PATH Train.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luck

www.njtransit.com has a complete map of the NJ train system.If you are looking to drive close to NYC, park and take the train the rest of the way, there are 2 good stations for this... Metropark, which is right off the Garden State Parkway at exit 131 (about 30-40 mins from NYC, trains run about every 20-30 minutes), and Secaucus Junction, which is right off the New Jersey Turnpike at exit 15X (5 mins from NYC, trains every 5-10 mins).Both have parking, but Metropark is cheaper at $5 per day, every day. Secaucus has $5 parking only on weekends and evenings.Good luck!
