It s essentially a toll for a round trip. If you head into NJ, you ve probably either already paid a toll coming into NY, or you ll return to pay a toll coming into NY at some point. These tolls are often higher than tolls on roadways that charge the tolls in both directions, so it s as if you re paying the toll for both directions at the same time.In addition, charging tolls on outbound traffic would cause severe backups leaving the city, forcing the backups to affect already-congested city traffic. Imagine the already-messy Holland Tunnel plaza charging outbound tolls, and having traffic backed up through the tunnel, back into downtown Manhattan, worse than it already is? Or, on the GWB, backing traffic up onto the Cross Bronx...I shudder at the thought. It s already a parking lot - they d need to make it a two-tiered parking lot to fit everybody!
That because outbound traffic, heading for NJ is free, while traffic heading for the city have to pay a toll of between $6 to $8.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luck
you head east into nyc and west into new jersey. geography is a good thing, my friend.
